What a terrific stay! My sister and I stayed here for 1 night when visiting Yufuin, and had a blast! We arrived a little early to drop off our luggage, and the hostess was so kind and accommodating. We returned and had dinner at her yaki-nikku (BBQ) restaurant, which has a lot of character. We were met with huge platters of veggies and chicken to grill, and she helped grill the ayu (small fish) and giant tiger shrimp for us. Perfect with a cold beer after a day of exploring! The room was very clean and tidy, and could've easily accommodated at least 2 more people. Our room also had a great view of Mt Yufuin. There was a kettle, microwave, and mini fridge, making for a very comfortable stay. It's about a 25 min walk (down a big hill) to get into town, so we walked into town and took a cab back. I think the big hill would've been a bit much with luggage, so just bear that in mind. If you're looking for a fun experience in Yufuin, I'd happily recommend this place! The owner was so kind and accommodating. It's also a 7 min walk from the Yufuin Tsuka No Ma onsen (hot spring), if you'd like to check out a hot spring while staying here. (We tried going, but it was closed by the time we got there.) Two things to note: 1) There isn't WiFi here. This wasn't an issue for us, but could be for some travelers. 2) Knowing a little Japanese will help, as I'm not sure how much English the owner speaks. I think even if you use Google translate (or similar app), that'd help.

It's a little bit farther away from the city center which is perfect if you're looking for a quiet and relaxed stay. If you are getting to Yufuin by public transport it might be a good idea to ask for a transfer from the train station to the hotel. From the room we heard birds singing and could see the mountains. The dinner was also exceptional.

Jenny

We had a lovely room with amazing views of the mountains and we could use a private onsen. The place is far from the center so not an easy location and very few busses that stop nearby but it was nice to stay in a more remote part of town.

Charlotta

Very authentic, ensure you bring cash to pay when you arrive as they don't take other payment types. Beautiful private onsen and mountain setting, really nice charcoal BBQ food, clean room and facilities. Welcoming staff.

Ben

Set among the hillside, the semi outdoor bath was so beautiful! Not a highly sanitised onsen like what you find in some city hotels, but a rustic one with bare timbers. The views were amazing & the air, pristine.
